LOCALLY MADE

Cooperative marketing is the oldest form of commerce where public spaces are used to allow the community to not only buy goods but also to gather.

The farmers’ market movement is the modern form of that public marketplace, and the Narrowsburg Farmers’ Market is proud to step into that role.

2019 was the inaugural year of the new Narrowsburg Farmers’ Market, but this market has deep roots…

The Barryville Farmers’ Market was started in 2005 by Mark Veeder and Cooper Boone.

Both Veeder and Boone hail from rural roots and strongly felt a need to support the American farmer. "Everyone told us we were crazy to start this farmers’ market," says Boone. "But it became a bustling event every Saturday in our town and has grown from 2 farmers when we started to over 15 farmers, food producers, and artisans!"

In addition to starting the market, Boone and Veeder also founded the Barryville Greenmarket Foundation (a non-profit organization) to manage the market and provide educational programming.

Its mission is to educate consumers on healthy, local eating habits and promote the importance of supporting local farmers, as they are the cornerstones of a healthy community.

The Barryville Greenmarket Foundation was supported early on by the Pratt-Heins Foundation as well as many local individuals thru their fundraising events.

We wish to thank Kathy and Brendan Weiden, the owners of the Narrowsburg Union, for welcoming the market onto their beautiful property in Narrowsburg. They are champions of the community and local agriculture. If you see them at market, please say thank you!
